Sonomatic – a world leader in ultrasonic non-destructive testing – has been assessed against internationally-recognised standards to gain certification from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

The company, which has bases in Aberdeen and Warrington, is now accredited as a Type A inspection body in accordance with ISO/IEC 17020:1998 after staff demonstrated the necessary competence, impartiality and capability to provide “third party” services.

UKAS is the sole national accreditation body recognised by government to assess organisations providing certification, testing, inspection, and calibration services. Accreditation by UKAS demonstrates evaluators’ competence, impartiality, and performance capability.

The UKAS accreditation covers Sonomatic’s colour graphic mapping of corrosion and erosion, as well as its use of the time of flight diffraction (ToFD) and automated ultrasonic inspection techniques.

Sonomatic general manager John Lilley said: “Achieving UKAS certification is the result of a lot of hard work right across the company, and is a hugely important landmark for Sonomatic.“It reflects the high level of professionalism we strive to attain in all we do, and we are justly proud of this recognition as not many organisations achieve this level of accreditation.”
