Sonomatic is a market leader in the development and provision of automated ultrasonic inspection services and products with operational bases in Warrington, Aberdeen, Middle East, Johannesburg and Charlotte in the US. The company was initially privately owned but was acquired by AEA Technology in the mid-1990s and then bought by its current US owners, Commercial Worldwide in April 2005. Today the company has widened its focus and provides proven yet pioneering services to customers in defence and power generation, but our largest client base is in the challenging oil and gas industry, both upstream and downstream.
Sonomatic’s capabilities for the development of software, equipment, scanners and bespoke developments, such as inspection techniques for Hot Tap welds, coupled with the expertise of our engineers, means we are among the leaders within this highly specialised field.
As a leader in such techniques as ToFD (time of flight diffraction), Sonomatic has designed and continues to develop innovative inspection methods that are applied by our own team of experienced field service engineers.
Integration of the engineering and inspection services for non-intrusive inspection services (NII) benefits the client by allowing vessels and equipment suitable for NII to be identified and reduces the need for costly plant shut downs to assess the internal condition.
Sonomatic is committed to providing accurate proactive inspection solutions that enable clients to manage the integrity of maturing assets, while making informed and cost-effective decisions crucial to maintaining safety of plant for extended operating lifetimes.

The development of a new integrity support division means Sonomatic can provide clients with a fully integrated service from detailed inspection planning, through assessment of the results to definition of ongoing integrity management plans. The aim is to bridge the gap between the integrity and inspection activities to ensure that the clients integrity needs are effectively met through a sufficient understanding of the real condition of equipment in service.
It is heavily involved in the fast-growing area of NII, which allows for equipment to continue working while being assessed, thus eliminating the need for costly shut-downs. The creation of the division is in response to customer demand for Sonomatic to use its expertise to provide an integrity perspective to the assessment of its inspection data.
